In this artwork I wanted to explore the idea of finding inner peace and tranquility through embracing our fears and leaning into the unknown. The woman in the painting is calmly looking at the viewer. The wolf is looking directly her. This piece symbolises the two wolves within us all and the choices we make about which one we feed.
The Old Cherokee quote about the two wolves states that there are two wolves within us all - one of light and one of darkness. The wolf of darkness represents fear, anger and negativity while the wolf of light represents love, joy and positivity. The quote emphasises that the wolf we choose to feed is the one that will win.
Before taking on this challenge, I was tempted to listen to the wolf of darkness - the one that whispered, "Don't do it Mim. You can't paint things that are out of your comfort zone." But I chose to listen to the wolf of light ~ the one that encouraged me to take on the challenge and push me out of my comfort zone.
The Old Cherokee quote about the two wolves reminds us that we all have a choice in which wolf we feed and which one we allow to win. By choosing to feed the wolf of light I found my own form of Zen and tapped into a deeper sense of purpose and calm.
