This painting is inspired by the letter L and the layered symbolism of lime, lemons, the labyrinth and ladybugs, weaving together nature, fantasy and music. At its centre is Jareth the Goblin King—the iconic character portrayed by David Bowie in Labyrinth.
Instead of holding the three crystal balls from the film Jareth’s hands present three luminous limes. These circular centres create the illusion of the familiar floating orbs.
Lemon trees are featured in the borders of the artwork symbolising growth and curiosity. Ladybugs are seen throughout the artwork representing good luck. In the background a glowing moon carries handwritten lyrics from Labyrinth.
"You remind me of the babe (what babe?)
Babe with the power (what power?)
Power of voodoo (who do?)
You do (do what?)
Remind me of the babe"
