Original Artwork title: Patti Smith
Medium: Acrylic , ink on canvas
Size: 60 x 50 cm
This painting captures the timeless spirit of Patti Smith calmly standing in a field of wildflowers with two horses next to her. The horses that appears are a homage to the album ‘horses’ that reshaped rock music. Patti is an icon and the queen of punk and poetic rebellion. In her hands she holds a bunch of wildflowers and in her left pocket is the Complete Works & Selected Letters book by her favourite French poet Rimbaud. This symbolises her deep connection to literature and the raw, rebellious energy that defines her artistry.
A red garnet ring is on her finger —representing the birthstone of a Capricorn—tying this moment to her December 30th birthday. Two monarch butterfly’s rest on her representing the cycles of life and transformation.
As part of my Rockstars and Icons series, this painting holds deep personal significance especially given the profound impact the album Horses had on me. Patti Smith is not only a musical icon but a symbol of resilience, transformation and the unyielding spirit of artistic and creative expression.
